David Axelrod is the man that was responsible for a lot of the great jazz albums in the ‘70’s. With people like Lou Rawls, Joe Williams, T-Bone Walker, Oscar Peterson, and Art Tatum on his resume, one would think that this man would be a household name. Not so, and his debut on Mowax is not going to change that but it will appease fans of Axelrod. Many people look at him as the godfather of trip-hop and downtempo with his amazing production work. Again, he has been sampled by some of the hottest musicians in the industry like Mos Def, Lauryn Hill, Dr. Dre, DJ Shadow, A Tribe Called Quest and De La Soul. So what does this album offer the public? Some of the tracks are old, straight from the 70’s music that has never seen the light of day but Mowax label head, James Lavelle felt that they were worthy of a release. As well, Axelrod has included many new tracks as well. This would fit in nicely into any eclectic electronica or even jazz collection.
