Alan Charing is rapidly moving up the ranks of singers you can trust. Notes, the band's second full-length, brims with the best American bands have to offer: lyrics that brood in wonder at the world, music that plugs in, cranks it up, and chases the mysteries of country, rock and folk ghosts. It is that good and you need it more than you need Ryan Adams. "Midnight Eyes", "See You Again" "Syndicate Plantation Fire" "The Pony Show (or the law of diminishing marginal utility)" ; every song on this A.C. Cotton record is a brilliant building off of, rather than copy, of the essential influences in American music. And they go great with beer and cheating girlfriends too.
