This is one of those albums that I wanted to hate. All the press and attention this collective has achieved over the last few years is unreal and almost unheard of for a little indie band. But I couldn't hate it. First listen I was hooked and every listen after that I was pulled in tighter and tighter until I have no other choice but to give Broken Social Scene a perfect score. Just listen to the perfect "It's All Gonna Break" for the best example of just where this collective is right now. The production is rough and raw but easily the most indicative of where these guys are right now. When songs fall apart they are held together with whispy and catchy melodies that are just barely there. Hell, even a song as repetitive as "Superconnected" comes off sounding brilliant. Another of this album's amazing moments is the panicked "Windsurfing Nation" that sounds more like an electronic moment gone wrong but it all works out. Leslie Feist makes her appearance on this track as well as rapper K-Os even if it is subdued. I honestly cannot get enough of this album.

This is a superb album. It's like someone took all the best parts of summer vacation and distilled it into audio form and then released it on CD. If "7/4 (Shoreline)" doesn't make you want to ditch whatever class/job/church fundraiser you're currently stuck in and run outside naked, then you're dead inside. Medical science agrees with me, so there.
