Clutch - Robot Hive/Exodus
Clutch seems to be fired up right now on a wave of inspiration. I thought that the band would never top Pure Rock Fury but along comes Robot Hive/Exodus. A mere year after their impressive Blast Tyrant. It is very rare this day and age where a band is capable of putting out two albums in two consecutive years let alone impressive ones. The fact that they are on a little label now called DRT which has no other agenda other than putting out music may help propel this creativity rush. This album has just as much funk on it as it does metal. There are thick blues references but equaled with COC influences. The band manages to keep within the boundaries it has set but also manage to raise the bar about 10 feet. Any rock fan, not just metal, should appreciate Robot Hive/Exodus. This is a funky hard-rock ride. They even smooth things out on "The Land of Pleasant Living" with a lighter soul sound. Clutch is many years into their career and are still pumping out quality material. Not an easy feat.
