How does one get excited about a "rarities" compilation from a band that you sort of respect but aren't an avid fan? I guess you don't and that's how I feel with the latest offering from Cursive. Don't get me wrong, there are some great songs on The Difference Between Houses and Homes. In fact we are ushered in with two of the best: "Dispenser" and "Pivital". But a track like "Icebreakers" kills all the euphoria from the first two tracks. And the rest of the album really is hit and miss with no real standouts. I would suggest that you hold on to your hard earned dollar and wait until the brand new Cursive comes out. It has to be better than this collection of throwaways. There are some decent tracks here but none worth your $20.

I am a huge Cursive fan. They are by far my favorite band and I own everything they have ever relaesed. This album, however, is towards the bottom on my list--I mean, I love raw tracks and all, but some songs simply aren't that good. Dennis is right, "Dispenser" and "Pivital" are two awesome tracks, and its nice to see that Cursive really improved on their first endeavors of songs, but ultimately, if you're going to listen to Cursive there's tons of material that should be heard before The Difference Between Houses and Homes gets a listen. The only thing really worthwhile is the album art, which tells a quaint story written by Tim Kasher of the real difference between the words houses and homes. Other than that, buy one of their LPs if you're looking for great music.
