Philly's One Star Hotel blend a little soul into their Americana, a humor that helps soften the spotlight on the loss and shaky hope they obsess over. Sam Shepard would be great sitting in on Good Morning, West Gordon. "Two and Four", "Same Town", and "Can't be trusted" especially highlight Guitarist and singer Steve Yutzy-Burkey's worn out but used to struggle voice; a lazy organ is the perfect counterpoint. That many of the images here evoke the dying city is a refreshing twist for alt-country; One Star Hotel wears its influences, but writes about where it lives.
