Red Krayola prime mover Mayo Thompson has kept that band unpredictable and constantly in search of the mystic for over 40 years now. Corky's Debt To His Father, his only solo record, reads like a prophecy of lo-fi as it is also an exploration of the dark moments in music history, which he incorporates into a whimsical, sexually charged stew. The country blues-meets beach boys effect of "Horses" and "Black Legs" vie for wisdom with the stark, insular "To You." Thompson has always been as fearless as Dylan and Young and Reed, but almost completely unknown. A recent cover story in Wire might help Mayo, as his current line up of Red Krayola includes former Minutemen drummer George Hurley.
