Wow, Doppelganger is one little intense album that leads me down the path of do I love it or do I hate it. The music is structured at times and then others the guys go off on a Mars Volta tangent. They have a bit of the progressive side to their hardcore base while keeping a foot partially in the emo pool. The musicianship on this album is stellar with some whacky time changes and signatures. Barrett Jones of Foo Fighters and Jawbox production fame was brought in to try and get The Fall of Troy's sound on tape. The production is great and really lends itself to the musicianship. There are spastic elements on tracks like "Laces Out, Dan" that remind me of The Blood Brothers. But for the most part it sticks along the Prog Hardcore line which is being defined as you listen to the album.
In the end, I still can't decide on if I like it or hate it. If given the time, I'm sure that Doppelganger could grow on you but otherwise it seems disposable. That being said, I think that The Fall of Troy could ultimately hit a note with many hardcore fans. They do have a different take on things and are capable of a very dynamic sound.

Thank you Guitar Hero and thank you Doppelganger and thank you Fall of Troy for the song "F.C.P.R.E.M.I.X." Not only am I digging this band more and more everytime I hear them, that song in particular plays in my head longer after I've heard it last. More or less amazing.

You definitely need to listen to this CD a couple of times before you decide whether you like it or not. But then again, it all depends on what type of music you are into in the first place. If you like Blood Brothers, I wouldn't be able to understand why you wouldn't like the Fall of Troy. Base lines are solid, and the guitar parts kill your ears[in the best way possible]. It amazes you that one man is playing all of these guitar parts by himself. This band oozes of talent, if you like very random hard progessive rock, then check this band out.
