RecommendTwo basic styles are at work here on Sunset Rubdown's Snake's Got A Leg, fighting to be hip: the electronic ("the dust you kick up is too fine," "snakes got ale") and the "is he really insane" lo-fi of "hey you handsome vulture" and "know the weight of your throat." Neither really ring true, since this record sounds like someone trying really hard to be arty and twisted. Jessica Simpson and 50 Cent may come right out of the box ready for the copy machine, but Jandek doesn't. Kudos for wanting to sound like Sparklehorse, though. Maybe Sunset Rubdown will be big once the next "alternative" style comes around to imitate.
