RecommendThe crackling sound similar to that of an old Radio 2 microphone precedes the colourful blues and jazz fuelled offering from the erstwhile and funky Ironweed (alias Aniff Akinola), before his old style bluesy vocals that nods at the likes of Elvis, Johnny Cash, Alabama 3, Barry White and James Brown arrive. However, the narrative styled ranting about the pace modern life set him aside from any real discernible sound. Big booming bass lines kick in to give you time to digest what has just been pronounced, before the vocals make a welcome return and ride alongside it.
A touch of soul and ambient is added to the repertoire in the B-side; an Audio Spaces remix of the track that makes Aniff sound like an even more relaxed Barry White. Ironweed can bring the dry west of America to any mundane setting with his captivating vocal range and buzzing eclectic musical backdrop.
