RecommendPopular in the late 80's-early 90's, Australia's the Church won fans over with a smart, atmospheric sound that seemed a cut above the usual pap of the period. Apparently, they have continued to record long after losing favor in North America. This latest disc, El Momento Descidado, continues their streak, with half a disc of new songs, plus acoustic remakes of old favorites. While this may sound like a hodgepodge or a stop-gap measure of a record, there is cohesion and a unity to the tracks that make it a solid effort. "Under the Milky Way" and "Unguarded Moment" work well under the new readings, New songs like "November" take risks with building a moody ambience over a signature sound. The moving "Almost with You" may The Church's best song to date.
