Vollmar - 13 Or So People Who Need Chances
Quiet brilliant songs of loss and whimsy that just may be touched with genius. Or madness. Jay Vollmar sings story-songs that hum along slowly, yet give you the creeping feeling that something wicked this way comes. The set is broken up into sections of acoustic, instrumental, electric and a final section implying offerings of hope. After the majestic hermeticism of the brilliant "A Widow", "William, Go Away", and "Beside The Se4a From You and Me", I'm not sure an explicit expression of hope is even wanted. I want more of his inner struggle to connect, empathize, share whatever it is in the people he meets that makes him sad. I'll say this is art and feel no remorse.
