Beautiful collection of solo piano pieces that blur the line between improv and classical. Most of the pieces are under four minutes; surprisingly the tight structure allows for a lot of development. While there is always a reflective vibe to solo piano, Armstrong's titles hint at a reaching for closure, resignation "Gentle Place"; "Hidden"; "Delay"; "Childhood 2"; Diffuse":you get the sense that the songs here are the internal soundtrack of someone moving on, or away. In the mix on "Childhood 2" you can hear clips of found sound of children playing outside; the only voices on the record, they might give clues as to where the inner action is taking place.
