The name of this band is a little bit misleading. You might think of an electronica artist or maybe hip hop but Beats For Beginners is a gentle indie pop band that cleverly crafts their songs around the odd electronic component. The one that really stands out as an electronic song is "When Robots Attack", with a sweeping synth that persists throughout the whole song. But then on songs like the beautiful ballad "Need You Tonite" (no, not a cover of the INXS song!), they throw out all effects and show some decent straightforward songwriting. Mike TV (singer/guitar) shows some really clever writing on tracks like "Kill All DJs" and "Little Rock and Roll Ghost", diving right into the pop territory. Don't Fly Into The Sun is a great debut album from this British pop band and I hope it does well. I think the name may hold them back a little but other than that, Mike TV and crew have the chops.
