A solid mix of hip-hop and found sounds that shows both a willingness to play up cliches and transcend them as well. This is smart, fun, and aware. While bogged down early by typical hip-hop boasting, they find their groove shortly with "Luv." "Temperature" and "One Chance" explore emotional questions that few in any genre are talking about right now, and "Amerika" and "Poems 4 Post Modern Decay" address public issues that again are hardly on the plate of those selling tons of CD's. The set ends with the powerful beats and messages of "Stranger in my Home" and "Oh Lawd."
Zion I blends dub, techno and spliced industrial noise into its formidable rap and rage. They sound as if they are still experimenting with their sound; when they find, they'll be monsters.
