The Faces - Five Guys Walk Into A Bar
This CD gives over 50 good reasons why Ron Wood was put on this earth for more than the cocaine. While he has spent the last thirty years barely audible in the Stones, he was once a monster guitarist who rivaled Keith himself for dirty riffing. This 4 CD set covers the entire sadly short career of the Faces, whose members are all pretty well known. Wood, Rod Stewart, Ian McLagan, Ronnie Lane, and Kenny Jones blazed a drunken gritty trail in the early 70's, paving the way for punk and power-pop. Classics like "Flying", "Ooh-La-La", "Stay With Me" drunkenly prop up against lesser-known material such as their covers of "Maybe I'm Amazed" and "Jealous Guy." For those who followed their all too brief career, this is a reminder of how great and fun they were. For the uninitiated, this is a revelation: somehow, given the fame of the individual members, The Faces have become one of the great lost bands. Hopefully this set will change that, and they will be given their due.
