Varnaline was one of those bands that a few people talked about and probably fewer actually listened to. They put out a pretty consistent set of albums, four in total ending with 2001's Songs in a Northern Key. Tell It To the Dust marks Anders Parker's solo career and with it comes an album that is a little less than stellar. Anders chooses to start the album off with the title track and the best one on the album. It has a melody that could hold up to any other roots rockers out there. That's about where it slows down too. Now the rest of the album is decent, actually better than decent at times but I can't help but feel that it's all been done before. There is nothing quite as memorable as the title track on the album. A few that come close like "So It Goes" and the lovely "Innocents" but there seems like a lot of filler and no hooks. Not like every track needs a hook but as consistent as Varnaline's output was, I was hoping for a little more from Anders.
