This is a Groovy, soulful collection of African acts that have sifted through pop music and created their own space. There are the strong Soul shouts of Super Mambo 69's "Sweeper Soul" and Geraldo Pino' "Heavy Heavy Heavy". There is the nastay funk of Dakin Dackino' "Yuda K." Frimpong and His Cubano Fiestas work a raging garage rock/dancehall routine on "Kyenkyen Bi Adi M'awu". There is even funkified samba for y'all, courtesy of Mercury Dance Band's "Envy No Good." Nothing new here in terms of genre-bending, but all artists are rock solid and play like their lives depended on it. That is what it is all about, right?
