Passiou - Please Don't Eat Me
Drone with bored but hypnotic female vocals works every time. While the obvious comparison is to Sonic Youth, the territory staked out here is darker, more disturbed. "The Cops in You", "Spirit Knife" and "King Apposable Thumb" sway gentle and eerily to stomp, creating a mood that the Sonics reached more often in their solo work. The guitar seem ready to pounce, and the pain is more acute when they don't then when they do. "Vegetarian Me" is an epic, Velvets-style translucence mixing with that monotone vocal that makes it shameful to think it sexy.
