This would rate ten stars, if I could rate it that high."Hell hath no rap like a woman scorned", as Thes One+ J Live say on "Give it up."but the whole set is one big rap by angry DJ's who seem as sick of the waste of the nation as they are of Hip-Hop. Building off the beats of hard 70's funk and the socially indicting lyrics of both James Brown and Chuck D, this is rap that truly is what KRS-One once said rap should be: The Black CNN. This Kid Named Miles + Medusa's "New Definition" alone belongs in the top of five spots on the charts at once just to sweep away 50 Cent's tired boasting. Listen to this record and then listen to the next rap hit, the one that will eventually talk about how much more pussy the rapper has gotten than you and about how the grill on his Hummer gives him a woody. Kajmere Sound Distribution began this move to find and promote socially conscious hip-Hip with 1999's Frist volume of this series, Funky Precedent, featuring then barely known SoCal rappers Jurassic 5, Black Eyed Peas, Breakstra, and Ugly Duckling. Breakstra is back again with the heavy "Show and Prove". DJ Einstein( Ugly Duckling) and MC Zaakir (Jurassic 5) also return to collaborate on "Haves and Have Nots". But everyone of the 16 tracks here are hard-hitting and more intelligent than anything you'll hear this year. Already a classic, you NEED this.
