Sweet but slightly weary vocals, a whimsical lyric take on heartbreak and confusion. I could be talking about Dusty in Memphis, but instead I'm referring to Saturday Looks Good To Me, a band that has absorbed the best traits of pop music while mostly avoiding its pitfalls.
Pop at its best brings a smile and some hope, with hooks that lets you know it's ok to let go of yourself-and in some cases, get over yourself. SLGTM does all that, with a record that is musically rich in melody and instrumentation. The first two cuts, "Since You Stole My Heart" and "Until The World Stops Spinning" make you feel as if you've stumbled onto a Burt Bacharach record or out-takes from the Umbrellas of Cherbourg soundtrack; this disc has a timeless, and effortless feel. This is well-crafted pop that here is no code for bubblegum. Other standouts like "Empty room" and "We Can't Work It Out" make it a classic.
