With the opener, the build to stomp "Marigold", Throttlerod announce their ambition: to plug in and crank our some solid, blues based rock. No jams here, and no needless posturing. This is a band that works for it, and gets in and gets out of a tune solid. Tracks like "Snake into Angel" and "Sucker Punch" show a deeper life beneath the riffing; the country ballad "Been Wrong" exposes it. These are tune that you probably need to stay with for a bit, like with a partner that reminds you of someone else, but makes you hope this one will be different. On first listen, some of these songs may sound like typical bluesy, country bar band fare; on repeated ,listens they bloom into something much more valuable. While not as astute, nor as risk taking as Slobberbone or Bottle Rockets, they still have their insightful moments and blend their country and rock influences mightily.
