Eluvium is one of those artists/bands that you don't immediately like. No, they take time to appreciate and Talk Amongst The Trees is no different. Matthew Cooper made a slight detour with his last album, An Accidental Memory In The Case Of Death, but he's back on track with this album. You could call this one Lambent Material part two. Consider Eluvium to be drone music on Quaaludes. It's the most non-moving music I have witnessed. There is nary a percussive instrument on the album. Some may cry foul with the similarities between this and Lambent but the thing with Eluvium is it does take some quality time (and quantity for that matter) to fully appreciate the mellow soundscapes that Cooper creates. By the time that fans get their hands on Talk Amongst The Trees they will be ready for something new, even though it's not terribly different. As soon as fans hear the opener, "New Animals From The Air", they will instantly recognize that Cooper is back in the same space as his debut, with the reverse tape loops running the introduction. The album comes close to an hour so if you don't have the time to invest in listening to this album multiple times, I might stay away. Otherwise, dive in, and enjoy. This is exactly what drone music should sound like; beauty, emotions, and no distractions.
