Like a little psychedelia with your pop music? Well, if that's the case I would recommend Jennifer Gentle to you. No, this isn't the next Britney Spears. Jennifer Gentle is an Italian psych-rock duo consisting of Marco Fasolo and Alessio Gastaldello. Since their formation they have expanded to a four-piece and miraculously secured a Sub Pop deal in North America. Valende is the first release on Sub Pop but their third in total It is an example of psych-rock or folk in its finest form. Some of the songs are so technical like the beautiful guitars on the two part "The Garden". And yet they go all crazy and twisted on tracks like "Nothing Makes Sense", closer to the twisted styles of Half-Handed Cloud than the former John Fahey styled songs. Hell, somehow they even find Alvin the Chipmunk to sing on this track (sounds like it could be). And then there is complete noise on "Hessesopoa", a track that I could have done without to make a very pleasant album. Who would have thought that one of the best psych-folk albums would have come from Italy but that just might be the case with Jennifer Gentle's Valende.
