The late Tom Hazlemeyer (d. 1997) ought to be buried in Detroit, the birthplace of his brand of evil guitar magic...with Keith Richards. This compilation of yet another great band you never heard of from the late 80's-early 90's is crammed full of vicious riffs and breaks, in songs of barely controlled frenzy. "Rubber Room" is a classic, and would have fit in nicely on Raw Power.
"MD20-20" does a fairly good job of providing the queasy, pissed-off, spike in your head hangover nastiness of said beverage, and is a good companion to "Drunk (in Detroit)." "Ballad of Extreme Hate" and "DDT beat '69" are other standouts. Insanity rules here, where the best thing Tom and crew can say about us all is that we are caged animals. And it sucks to know it. Unrelenting gloom is not usually something I recommend, at least to other people, but this is such a great sludgy feast that everyone who matters ought to get a copy. And that means everybody.
