I have been a COC fan for quite sometime (COC, Corrosion of Conformity, whatever they choose for an album). In The Arms of God is their first album in 5 years, their last being the impressive America's Volume Dealer. In The Arms of God is along the same path as Volume Dealer but the main thing that is missing here is hooks. The album is good but there is nothing immediate about it. It's an album that gets into a groove and rarely strays from the groove. The sound is still heavy and very signature COC but the hooks are few and far between. Maybe that was by design but I can't help but feel that there is something important missing on Arms of God. There is no sign of catchy tracks like "Diablo Blvd." Instead we are presented with a boring and repetitive "It Is That Way" that should have been left off this album at all costs. I think many COC fans will be disappointed with this album. It's heavy but it just doesn't have the hooks.
