Aesop Rock has quickly solidified his place on college hip hop charts with a mere three albums. For any of you that found your way here are into the like of The Game, 50 Cent or any other top 40 hip hop crap you are about to be transformed. Aesop doesn't have a flow like the top 40 crew. Instead he opts for a big more of an angular approach. The production is minimal relying on vocals and beats to carry the fact home. It's producers Blockhead and Rob Sonic that pull this off leaving the rest up to Aesop. If you are familiar with the likes of cLOUDDEAD or even Dalek for that matter, you should definitely check out Aesop Rock. He's not quite as weird as Dalek, meaning a little more accessible and then again, his vocals may not be for everyone. On "Number Nine" it sounds like some Munchkins backing up Aesop. "Zodiaccupuncture" is one of the highlights on Fast Cars with some pretty flowing lyrics. Now this little EP really hits full stride with "Rickety Rackety" featuring CamuTao and El-P. The funk and lyric play on this song is worth the price of admission alone. It is the best hip hop track I have heard so far this year. Another added feature of this CD is a booklet called "The Living Human Curiosity Sideshow". It has all the lyrics that Aesop Rock has ever penned. It's one of those things that end up with mixed results; you realize that lyrics really are as messed up as you thought they were. Anyway, this EP provides you with a good value for your money. All 7 tracks are premium Aesop Rock and should impress even the toughest critic.
