By now you may have heard of the run-in Dan Snaith had with Handsome Dick Manitoba. So now Snaith presents Caribou, his new monicker for his cutting edge electronic happenings. Caribou really isn't that much different than Manitoba, really just a name change is all that happened. Snaith moved from his first album to his second by adding a lot more organic elements including his voice. We get more of the second album on The Milk Of Human Kind. The album opens up with "Yeti", picking up where he left off on Up In Flames. It features his vocals which are actually quite decent. Not sure where he was planing to go with "Subotnick". It sounds a little along the soul side of things but doesn't really go anywhere with the minute that we get from it. "A Final Warning", on the other hand, gets going really nice bouncing back and forth like a mild Aphex Twin track. The track "Bees" sounds like a lower key Beta Band. It is a gentle song more in the rock vein than electronic samples, ending up quite delightful. Another gentle track fitting more in the psych-folk category is "Hello Hammerheads". "Pelican Narrows" could be a DJ Shadow track, beautifully executed. Bottom line, I'm not one to go off on Caribou like many people will. It is a good album and one that I know I will come back to from time to time.
