Ned Oldham is back with another The Anomaonon album. I've heard Anomoanon described as a love it or hate it type of project but I beg to differ. I find myself right in the middle, sometimes leaning more towards the like and sometimes towards the hate. The album does have a 70's rock feel to it but then the track "Nowhere" is screaming out Meat Puppets to me. Somewhere in the middle is Anomoanon. You might also hear some similarities to that of My Morning Jacket. Well, both bands do come from Kentucky. So with the same sort of laid back, southern feel, expect Ned and his group to come very close to that sound. No, they don't record in silos but they would sound too much like MMJ if that was the case. Instead they opt for basements and makeshift recording studios. The guitar playing on "After Than Before" or "Nowhere" sounds like it could be a Jimmy Page or even fit into an Allman Brothers album. It's just got that timely feel and although I'm still not completely sold on Anomoanon I do respect what they are doing here. Musically, they are miles ahead. I think it might just be Ned's voice that makes me waver between the love-hate thing.
