RecommendLooking for some fairly unique pop? Half-Handed Cloud just might be your ticket. Thy Is A Word and Feet Need Lamps is one twisted pop journey that leaves me scratching my head as to why I find charm in it. Seriously, I have been listening to this album the better part of today and I still can't really understand why I like it. This is the third album for Half-Handed Cloud and the first for what is becoming a very interesting label, Asthmatic Kitty. It's basically the John Ringhofer show and with his Jonathan Donahue style vocals he weaves through an Olivia Tremor Control-like haze of pop ditties. The more spins of the CD that I get through, the more addicted I get to Half-Handed Cloud. The music is complicated and like earlier Guided By Voices some of the songs aren't really complete. That's how Ringhofer gets through 16 tracks in under 30 minutes. If you can get by a title like Thy is a Word and Feet Need Lamps, you are already there.
