With the Nu Wave/Post Punk revisitation at its apex, it was only a matter of time before someone combined the hiccuping, art-damaged sounds of Lene Lovich and Siouxsie Sioux with the au courrant electro and dance punk stylings.
Enter Dandi Wind, a duo from Vancouver, Canada, with their debut 6-song EP "Bait The Traps." Over the course of 20 minutes, vocalist Dandi Wind and multi-instrumentalist Szam Findlay trudge through a meandering mash-up of tired cliches, weak songs and obnoxious sonics. Gary Glitter/Joan Jett-style anthems sit beside techno-punk shockers, with Wind's vocals lacking the visceral punch of her influences.
"Bait The Traps" is a classic case of style over substance. Over the past 6 months, Wind's live show has been rapturously received in Vancouver, marked by her Karen O meets Toyah theatrics. But no amount of face make-up and elaborate costumes can hide the fact that the music is tepid and unremarkable.
