Aha Shake Heartbreak is the sophomore album from Kings of Leon, the group of preachers songs, although you would never guess it from the content on this album. The Kings gave me a great hope with one song on their early EP, "California Waiting". I could still sing it on cue if you wanted. The sadly disappointed with their full-length album Youth and Youth Manhood but Aha Shake Heartbreak does show a little more promise. Nothing nearly as classic as "California Waiting" but I think this album just might grow on me. The thing with Kings of Leon is their music is amazing! Their songwriting and musicianship is really great but I sometimes get annoyed with Caleb's whiney vocals. There are other times when the are amazing. "King Of The Rodeo" reminds me slightly of the Strokes with a southern feel to it. Production duties on Heartbreak are superb. You can't help but get caught up in the groove of tracks like "Taper Jean Girl". They are infectious. With this sophomore effort, Kings of Leon have definitely moved back onto my list. They still have a way to go before they are even close to top but I totally enjoy this album. It's fun. Be careful with the DRM encoding from BMG. I've heard that this album won't work on some iPods. Works fine on my Apple G4/iPod.
