The Same As A Flower is the first album I have heard from the duo of Shinji Shibayama and Masako Takeda. This is the third full-length album for Nagisa Ni te (translated to "On The Beach") and all released state-side on Jagjaguawar. Their music has a slight folk element to it but it's ends up being more than just folk. There is a beautiful sunny element to every song on Flower. Everything just seems to have a bright outlook for Shinji and Masako. Shinji has been involved in the music world since the early 80s and pioneered some of the earlier psych-folk bands like Idiot O'Clock and Hallelujahs. The beauty and care that Shinji has put into this Nagisa Ni te album makes it a remarkably calming album. The vocals are a little disappointing but they do add some uniqueness to this music and gives it a Japanese flair (funny enough). These guys take western music and make it into something a little different. I wouldn't say that Nagisa Ni te is memorable, but it does provide some fairly relaxing folk/pop that you can chill out to.
