The first thing noticed on an album, regardless of who the band is or what sort of music they play, is the quality of production. Well, I noticed the quality of production alright, and I was not astonished to learn that "Snapshots from a Warehouse" was actually recorded in a warehouse. The do-it-yourself recording gives "Snapshots from a Warehouse" character and a "not fucked with" sound that Punk Rock has been unrightfully slipping away from. Not all music needs to be shoved though a processor.
With that said, The Hero and The Victor display the sort of talent that grows with age and practice. There is no doubt that The Hero and The Victor will make a name for itself within the indie rock scene. And it isn't just their music that makes me say this, it's also their ambition and energy the listener absorbs from it.
"I Bleed" is perhaps their most solid track, while the production's lacking is the most apparent; the guitar riff draws you in while the lyrics lay into you leaving an impression.
There was a process that I had to undergo to appreciate this album. My feelings towards "Snapshots from a Warehouse" changed every time it was listened to. Though I do admit, the first listen didn't have me particularly thrilled, by the fourth I found myself getting into it. With patience and an open mind, "Snapshots from a Warehouse" will prove itself as a substantial Punk Rock album.
