Nothing says Christmas like a label Christmas compilation. All the artists come together to deliver their favorite Christmas songs or brand new songs they have written just for the season. This is the second volume in It's a Team Mint Xmas and it proves that originals are sometimes just as good as the old classics, although I always need to hear "Winter Wonderland" or "Little Drummer Boy" a couple times every year. This compilation is primarily all original songs. There are some really good songs and some mediocre songs but none that really should have been dropped. The album starts out strong with John Guliak and a song called "Daddy's Drinking Up Christmas" singing about a father's drinking issues. Then the always hot Atomic 7 make an appearance with a track called "Senor Santa El Es El Monstruo". The thing with their instrumentals is that they just need to throw in a Christmas title and call it a Christmas song. Sure, the sleigh bells make it seem authentic but that's about the only thing dictating that this is indeed a Christmas song. "I want to Kiss You This Christmas" is a quirky little song and somewhat pleasurable. Carolyn Mark is here twice with two very nice songs. Young and Sexy are bitter with their soon-to-be-classic "Santa Claus Likes Rich Kids Better". "The Blizzard" is The Buttless Chaps contribution and it feels like it could be a Marty Robbins classic. I'm not really a fan but the Evaporators come off fairly well. The album ends up with a reworking of Band-Aid's classic "Do They Know It's Christmas" with a Team Mint all star line-up. There is a multimedia component that shows the group mimicking the Band Aid video. The best track on the album is The Ramblin' Ambassadors "Don't Fear The Reindeer", a take on the "Deck The Halls" with their signature guitar leading the way. It's a Team Mint Xmas Vol. 2 is good and a nice addition to all the old Christmas classics.
