It's albums like these that are hard to find these days. I had a friend who was desperately looking for this album and I just happened to find it used at a cheesy used CD store. I had been exposed to Throwing Muses classic University but had never heard The Real Ramona. I would say that this album actually outshines University. Songs like "Him Dancing" are so friggin' catchy that anyone hearing them can't help but start moving. They stick in your head like gum in your hair. The album opens up with "Counting Backwards" is a good intro into the album. It's catchy but not totally immediate. But after a couple listens it finds its way into your cranium. I think my favorite track on Real Ramona is "Graffiti". It's a little lower-key than some of the other tracks but I found Kristen's voice to be just sublime on here. Even the fairly simplistic "Honeychain" stands up against the test of time. I guess this is probably the best example of Kristen Hersh and Tanya Donelly working together. It was good chemistry and The Real Ramona is a real find, one of Throwing Muses best albums and one that really showcases some of the best college rock of the 90s. It's a great addition to any rock collection.
