Belvedere is one of Calgary's premier punk bands and Fast Forward Eats The Tape is about to solidify that. Belvedere has been rocking the punk scene for close to a decade now, getting a little more exposure with each release that comes out. Fast Forward Eats The Tape gets a pretty decent release with Union 2112 Records and is going to reach out to even more punk fans than their previous album. The straight forwardness and the instant likeability of the band really comes across well here. The band is blistering hot with tracks like the opening "Subhuman Nature" and the amazing "Early Retirement". Belvedere is a band that has matured very nicely, starting off with very basic pop/punk ala Ramones and have found their way into a larger, more respected area with blistering fast riffs as well as catchy melodicism. There are many times through out Fast Forward that I hear some metal influences. It suits the band. Tracks like "All About Perspective" show us that they aren't afraid to let up on the power to get a different side of them. It really is the guitar playing that stands out but I think that the vocals are impressive as well. I would say this album rivals pretty much any punk with pop leanings on either Epitaph or Fat Wreck Chords, easily. Stand up and give Belvedere the respect they deserve. This is world class punk.
