Who would have thought that Quebec could have produced something as filthy good as A Perfect Murder? This is one of the best hardcore metal albums I have heard this year. You might expect a band of this caliber to come out of New York or even Boston but Quebec? It is home of influential act Voivod but there hasn't been a band this heavy from the province in quite some time. Unbroken is their first widely available release and somehow Victory records has scooped up this up-and-coming band for this album. It seems the perfect mix of hardcore is the New York style mixed with a bit of classic nordic death metal. That's what A Perfect Murder pulls off here. The music is never really blistering fast, instead they opt for a trudging sound that is fucking heavy. Everything is dropped down into minor keys and the music sounds more evil than Pantera ever has. I even get old Kill 'em All Metallica on the awesome "Possessed", only the guitar, because the voice is the heavy growl that comes from the death metal influences. The album is very dynamic and I have a feeling that any metal/hardcore fan will eat up A Perfect Murder. This is good stuff.
