The band Woven Hand may not sound familiar to you but maybe the name David Eugene Edwards might ring a bell. Yes, he's the frontman of 16 Horsepower. I fell in love with Consider The Birds pretty much after a mere 2 listens. It's a dark affair but it does remind me a lot of what Edwards has been moving towards with 16HP. I found his voice to be similar to a lot of coveted singers such as Jeff Buckley, Nick Cave, and even, to some extent Mark Lanegan. He's got the deep voice going for him and no lack of imagination when it comes to song arrangements. Consider The Birds is the third album for Wovenhand and it is the first that I have been exposed to. The depth of the album is outstanding and David Eugene's voice is such a perfect fit for the music that he writes. The music seems a little more stripped down than his full time band. With the strip-down process we alsot get an even more personal look at the man. The production is pristine and the emotion that Edwards puts in to these songs are argument alone. Think of Woven Hand as a layman's Tom Waits. The songs are complicated and yet very listenable. I think I have just found one of my top albums of the year. Thank you Woven Hand.
