I loved the Libertines debut album. Absolutely Loved IT! So needless to say I was eagerly anticipating this album. Now the album begins fairly promising with "Can't Stand Me Now", quite an upbeat and fun track. But it really is downhill with this eponymous titled album. There are a few songs on here that are decent, provided you hadn't heard their debut. But honestly, what kind of crap are they trying to pass on us with the less than mediocre "Don't Be Shy" and the slightly better "Man Who Would Be King" (Note: this second song did eventually grow on me but the first is still pathetic.) And the fairly upbeat track "Narcissist" has absolutely no kick to it. It sounds like they were trying to rip off the Kinks here but didn't succeed. Some of the better tracks include "The Ha Ha Wall" and "Last Post on the Bugle". I have to admit that I am really disappointed with this album. I guess you have to expect really varied output from a band as riddled with drugs at the Libertines.
