Quickening is a band from Cleveland, OH that is big on hooks and harmonies. Are you listening is a basic power rock band. I've seen them mentioned as emo but I don't hear that at all. I would suggest that their music is too much in the mainstream rock category to consider emo. Are You Listening is the sound of a band finding their own in the studio. They have the licks and the songwriting skills behind them but it seems to get a little lost in the studio. That is quite often the case when an able and talented band try to cut corners by trying to produce an album themselves. The songs on Are You Listening are good but they do need some polish. Bottom-line, these guys are pop and better not be afraid to admit it. Quickening sound like they are getting ready for the bigtime and waiting for a label to step in and hire a producer. I would keep my eye on Quickening. These guys do indeed have some potential even though a lot of this music sounds so familiar.
