I think the Datsuns have gotten a bad rap in North America. Their music kind of got lumped into the Garage rock sound of the White Stripes and other New York types but in reality, these guys have more in common with the likes of Fu Manchu. Their sound is furious and loud while guitars are raging on all ends. It is heavier that the White Stripes even pretend to be. I don't know if much ground has been made on their self-titled debut. Instead I would venture to say that they have only refined what they managed on it. Outta Sight/Outta Mind is a good album with some fine production from Led Zeppelin's John Paul Jones. Tracks like the album opener "Blacken My Thumb" rock as heavy as anything else that's out there right now. "Hong Kong Fury" is a very aggressive track and it is not the only one on here. I'm not sure why the Datsuns have got the bad rap because this is decent hard rock. It doesn't bring many new elements to the fold but they know what they are doing. Rock on!
