I feel that I may have lost something along the way with the LA based Midnight Movies. The music is well done but it really hasn't grabbed me, even after about 5 listens. The vocals are provided by the sultry and mysterious Angeleno Gena Oliver. She has a voice a little like Nico's but somewhere along the way the voice loses it's importance. The music is very dreamlike and is never obtrusive. Midnight Movies tries to make everything sound peachy and pleasant with a touch of darkness. Chimes come out of nowhere and the music is so light and airy that it's hard to keep attention on what is important. I know there will be some people that will just eat this album up but I really found it hard to pull out highlights. I guess this means that the album is very cohesive and consistent. If you like soft indie AOR style music then you might be into Midnight Movies. Otherwise, I might just stay away and look for something else.
