I have to admit that I am a little disappointed in the latest Q and not U album, Power. I have been a fan of theirs ever since their inception. I know change is good but I found I really couldn't get into Power. This album reminds me a little of that New York sound. It has a little of the !!! or Radio 4 sound going on and a little less Fugazi. Listen to "Beautiful Beats" and you can't help but tap your foot. Don't get me wrong, this album is still pretty decent but it is moving away from where they were at with their last album. We still get some of the killer punk styles on their "X-Polynation" and "Book Of Flags" tracks, also released as a single and b-side. I'm not sure that they are totally comfortable in the direction they are taking with Power but damn, Q and not U are still infectious. I could see myself getting into tracks like "Tag Tag" or the opening "Wonderful People" after a few more listens. Still one of the best bands on Dischord, without a doubt (besides Fugazi). If you read this, Q and not U, Come to Calgary! I would love to see you guys live.
