You've got to hate when a band with almost the same name as you gets world-wide exposure. That's pretty much the case with Alberta's Sons of Daughters. There is a band from Glasgow called Sons & Daughters that has a world-wide deal on Domino. Anyway, the Alberta band deserves some recognition for more than the unfortunate choice in band names. Their music is a little rootsy with a good chunk of rock in their music. Songs seem to be epic in nature. The self-titled EP kicks off with a track called "Scripts and Stories" that has a bit of a retro sound to it but man, does it rock hard. The next track is called "Drop Me In THe Well" and this is indeed where the roots influences really shine. It's got a great two step beat to it that sounds like it might be comfortable on an Old 97's album. On "Three Sheets" we get the more epic sound. The track is 6 minutes in length and couldn't easily be cut back. The guitar playing gets all technical but Todd Gesshe's vocals keep things grounded. There is plenty of rock on Sons of Daughters EP. Enough to keep your interest.
