RecommendI've already seen The Snake The Cross The Crown referred to as emo. This is not emo people. This is accessible rock and roll. This album is deeper and contains more musical styles that could ever be crammed into the broad emo category. Listen to "A Brief Intermission". It sounds more like a Jeff Buckley song or even Travis. This ain't no Dashboard Confessional, that's for sure. Mander Salis, a strangely named album for sure, starts out with a song that is huge. "An Honest Misappropriation of Funds" is a song that is worthy of being played in an arena. There are dynamics in the song that only bands like Coldplay could be capable of. Carl Marshall's vocals really stand out as one of The Snake The Cross The Crown's best assets. His range is broad without really sounding like he is working at it that hard. But that's not the only thing that these guys have going for them. The music is well written and the instrumentation fits so perfectly. Try on "The Sun Tells The Moon" for a perfect example of this. The production is done well by Angus Cooke. Some of the tracks prove to be very dramatic like the huge intro on "Echolalia". Mander Salis is a great album that will appeal to many different fanbases.

cant possibly agree with you more, hope it wasnt me that referred to it as Emo. I musta been smoking that funky crack if I said it. When this was released I was very much into things very extreme, and it seemed boring...but after getting their new one, I've found a serious home with these guys. That review will be up shortly. Very cool review, on the money type words. This band crams a lot of different styles.
