On the follow up to Solar Shears, Shooglenifty introduces a couple of new characters into the band. It hits with a bit of a mixed result. The musicians are more than qualified, it's just the material contained within. The track "Heading West" left me scratching my head. It just doesn't pack the punch that I am used to. That's probably the only track that I might have left of the album completely. The rest is fairly decent but does nothing to really move ahead of Solar Shears. You must remember that this is probably the On the second track, "The Arms Dealer's Daughter/Aye Right", we even get treated to an intro that comes off more as klezmer than celtic. The songs does eventually break into a more celtic feel but it just shows you what a talented group Shooglenifty are. Another song, "The Nordal Rumba" is a flawless mix of Celtic with a Rio style latin sound. The first time we really hear big time studio influences is "Bar Bruno'" with some pretty cool sounding percussion sounds. Overall, I found this album to be a little more along the traditional lines. It is still cutting edge but they actually remain a little more grounded on this release. It's really nice and I think Celtic fans will really enjoy this Shooglenifty release. They still stand out as one of the premier Celtic acts of this day and age.
