What do you do when you tour endlessly with another group? Well, in the case of frontmen Joey Cape of Lagwagon and Tony Sly of No Use For A Name they came up with the idea of doing an acoustic album of some of their songs. It's an interesting idea seeing that these songs are "normally" heard at breakneck speed. But as we are reminded, many of these punk songs originate acoustically and transform slowly into the punk tracks we know and love. The album comes out as a split album with Tony Sly taking on the first six songs and Joey taking on the next six. I know for a fact that not all Lagwagon and No Use For A Name (one in the same) will like Acoustic. They come off more like Chris Carrabba then who they pose as fronting punk bands. I guess, in reality, there isn't much difference in what Cape and Sly are doing when compared to Carrabba. Very similar. So basically, you get stripped down versions of tracks like "International You Day" and "Wind In Your Sails". There is one new track per person on Acoustic. Tony's new track is called "Stunt Double" and Joey's is called "Violet". While this isn't my favorite way to listen to these songs, I do have respect for an artist that is willing to bare themselves like this. Not an essential album but one worth hearing once.
