Holy live releases! Night Of Joy is the first of three live albums to come out this year from the notorious jam band Widespread Panic. This one (and the other two) was recorded at the House Of Blues in Myrtle Beach, SC and it features them playing with the outstanding Dirty Dozen Brass Band. This element alone adds a whole different dimension to what you might actually have become accustomed to. You may remember Another Joyous Occasion on which the Spread had the help of the Dirty Dozen Brass Band. This is more of the same. While Widespread Panic is best in a live setting I found Night Of Joy to be a little stale. I might have thought differently had I been present at the show. They only stretch out on a couple of tracks and otherwise stay pretty true to the original songs. Some of the covers may be worth the admission for some people. I think if you are looking for a jam band live album, look no further than the Allman Brothers latest output. That one kicks ass. WP fans will already have this through file sharing and bootlegs.
