The Killers make their way to the big leagues by way of Las Vegas while rooting and pillaging 1980s synth pop along the way. Can we handle another retro pop outfit? Well, when it's executed as well as the Killers I would argue that we would put up with a few more bands like this. As we all know music trends repeat about every 20-30 years and yes, it looks like we are at the 80s synth era once again. The album starts out with "Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine", a decent song but not near the best track on Hot Fuss. The best might be the next track, "Mr. Brightside", a melodic and very upbeat track and the one that has been getting all the attention. Hey, Blur should look into a lawsuit against the Killers' "Somebody Told Me". The song itself doesn't sound like "Girls and Boys" but with a chorus that goes "Somebody told me you had a boyfriend that looked like a girlfriend...". It's still a catchy song. One of the parts that grabbed me is the "I got soul but I'm not a soldier" bit on "All These Things That I've Done" when the choir comes in. "Andy, You're A Star" is a slower track that trudges along and lost me. Didn't care for the closing track, "Everything Will Be All Right". It was an attempt at a ballad but it just didn't seem inspired unlike a lot of the other songs. Hot Fuss has its moments and I'm sure that The Killers will see some airplay with their catchy songs.

Are you shocked at my low rating (actually pretty high if you ask me) or the overall User Rating? If you rate it high the average will go up. I still like to listen to some of the songs from Hot Fuzz. It sounds like you'd rate the album even lower than my editorial rating.

i'm quite shocked at the low rating, i'd give the first half of the album at least 8/10 however the second half isnt as good, at probably worth a 5 or 6. i enjoyed there sound on this album and the 2nd however after that i think brandon's lyrics have deteriorated.

The Killers make me want to kill myself. No, that wasnt supposed to be a joke or anything because of their name, that was me being honest. I hate the sounds of all of the 'electronic' work going on in the background. I believe that this band could get very annoying after listening to them enough times, and with as much radio play as they got, it was simple to get tired of these guys. Over played just as much as fall out boy, but somehow everyone loved them. I dont know, i just think these guys dont sound so great and arent as special as everyone makes them out to be.

* Very consistent album that deserves a better score if it wasn't for the last track. It's one of those albums that needs a couple spins before it can be judged. I hated the entire thing the first time around, but now it is currently one of my favorites.

this album i have in my collection only has one decent song on it and thats "somebody told me" and even that gets boring after hearing it too many times. i enjoy it on occasion like at work, but thats pretty rare. i like to have some diversity in my selection of music at work.
